Robert Burnard lived at Huccaby House, across the River Dart from the Forest Inn at Hexworthy. //Crossing's Guide to Dartmoor// states that "Across the river is Huccaby House, the residence of Mr. Robert Burnard F.S.A., whose researches on Dartmoor have thrown much light on its pre-historic antiquities, as well as upon its ancient mining". The article 'Antiquity of Mining on Dartmoor' is in the 'Annual reports and transactions of the Plymouth Institution and Devon and Cornwall Natural History Society. Vol. XI 1890-91 to 1893-94. Plymouth : William Brendon and Son. 1894. pp 85 - 112. The article contains an illustration of a 'Supposed pick head found in adit at big gully, Hexworthy' (information from Westcountry Studies Library).
